PORTLAND, Ore. (SportingAlert) – An MLS team of All-Stars will take on German champions Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, with a host of World Cup stars set to be on show.
Bayern Munich under the guidance of manager Pep Guardiola, Bayern Munich dominated the German league once again last season, but did came up short at defending their Champions League title.
Guardiola will be using the game to take a look at some of his returning World Cup starts, including Thomas Müller, Mario Götze, Manuel Neuer, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Jérôme Boateng and Philipp Lahm, who were all members of the title winning Germany team.
Meanwhile, the 2014 MLS All-Stars team will include the likes of Omar Gonzalez, Kyle Beckerman, Clint Dempsey, Graham Zusi and Michael Bradley, who were all members of the United States World Cup team in Brazil this summer.
Included in the All-Stars team are veterans Robbie Keane, Thierry Henry, Landon Donovan and Jermain Defoe, in addition to Erick Torres, Maurice Edu and Diego Valeri.
Ahead of the game several players from the MLS All-Stars squad expressed delight at facing arguably the best time in club football at the moment.
“The reputation they have in Germany and across Europe is one of success and winning championships,” American and Toronto FC midfielder Michael Bradley said.
“You look at their history in the Bundesliga and playing in Champions League and they’re a team that’s consistently fighting to win.”
Former Barcelona forward and New York Red Bull Bulls star Thierry Henry added: “I know how hard it is to stay at the top and win and they’ve been doing it forever.
“So you have to give them their credit and it’s going to be a hell of a challenge for us to contain that team and win the game with the little amount of time we have together.”
